This morning (6am) I did a 13.1 mile run at a 9:31mm pace for 2:04. I ran the first 3 miles with my friend Maribel Scott at a 10:30mm pace. She then turned back, and I continued on for the remainder. It felt really good. I got a feeling I am going to be able to crush 2 hours in the next half marathon if I am doing this in training run.
As for fueling, about an hour before the run I toasted a slice of whole wheat bread and spread some peanut butter on it, along with some Gatorade. About 15 minutes before the run, I had a GU Gel. This worked great, so I am going to continue on with this. During the run, I had GU Gels (3x) at miles 4, 8, & 12. This too worked well. About mile 11 I did start to tire, and ran out of water. I had froze my water bottle overnight, and this was awesome. It started to thaw just in time for the first GU! But ran out about mile 11, so I am going to have to adjust this in future long runs. Once I got back to Maribel’s house, she had me a Powerade Zero and a banana and that was an awesome completion fuel.
After the run I did an ice bath for 15 minutes, and then had some oatmeal & Gatorade.
This time next week, two words: DISNEY FANTASY!
