Half Marathon #03
On Dec. 8, 2012 I ran the Kiawah Island Half Marathon. Kiawah Island is a secure wealthy island. To get on the island, we had to park outside the gate and get bused into town for the starting area. It was a great race. I ran with my friend Becky. The course is ultra flat and fast. They had both a full and half marathon. There were no corrals, everyone just started together. There were about 3,500 runners total. Throughout the course, people came out to their driveways and were tailgating and cheering us on as we ran. This was very motivating. It was nice views of marshes, rivers, and wildlife.
As for me, I set a PR for the race. I ran the race in 1:52:52 (8:37mm pace). This was 4 minutes faster than my run in the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon.
The medal was really neat. It was made of recycled glass, and was etched with the race information, and a Blue Heron in the center. You can see it in the picture.
Next race up is the Disney Goofy for Marathon weekend, where I will run the half marathon on Saturday and the full marathon on Sunday in January.
