At the beginning of 2013, I established running goals for myself, both short-term and long-term. My ultimate long term goal was to run a half marathon in all 50 states of our United States. Until this week, I had not put much thought into it. However, this weekend, I ran across another couple’s website that gave me some ideas.
To start this mission, and start accomplishing this goal I had to come up with a name. I have decided to call my mission: 50 By 50 Challenge. My goal will be to run a half marathon in all 50 states before I turn 50 years old. This gives me a little over 10 years to complete this task.
A secondary challenge to this goal, like that of the 50 in 100 Challenge, is that I would like to complete all of these half marathons within a two (2) hour chip time. This will push me to maintain my current running level or improve.
I have made a menu item above to track all of my accomplishments toward this goal. As of now, I have completed half marathons in South Carolina & Florida. 48 to go. I also have 2 more states planned for 2013 – North Carolina & Georgia. 2014 my plan is to run the Disneyland Half Marathon, so this too will complete California.
I have really learned to like half marathons, and they are quite easy for me to run, without much stress & soreness following races; thus this could be accomplished by traveling and doing quick weekend trips.
I look forward to this challenge, and hope you will show your encouragement & support in the process.

I think it’s an awesome and practical goal to have! I agree with you the half marathons being easier to maintain than marathon fitness levels. I just don’t have the time to invest in the training anymore. I look forward to watching you reach your goals 🙂
The other cool thing about this is that it will have you visiting all 50 state. That is a good goal in itself. Now maybe you can find a run or two that crosses a state border thereby making your task easier. 😉
