This weekend, June 21-24, 2013, is the iRun Against Diabetes Virtual Race Weekend. I have signed up to run the half marathon event on Saturday. I have also agreed to walk the 5k with some coworkers on Friday, and also do the 5k with my wife at some point this weekend, probably with our dogs! I hope you signed up to do this incredible events as well. The registration was only $10, and all the proceeds go to diabetes research.
I have a few friends that are going to run parts of the half with me on Saturday, so I will always have someone running by my side. I encourage you to get out and do it, and show your support.
After you finish the event, all you do is go online to the website and post your times with all the others across the country who participated.
If you signed up, you will be getting a lovely medal to remember the event. Everyone that knows me, knows that I like the bling. My coworker Michael got his medal in the mail yesterday.
Good luck this weekend if you are doing one of the events. If not, show your encouragement for all the others out there that are doing it, by posting in the comments.
I remember reading about you doing this… where are you running your half on Saturday? I definitely need to get a 13.1 mile training run in. I like the idea of a virtual race and how everyone gets a medal (that is a cool medal), and I’m really proud of Michael for doing it too!
I think we are going to start at St. Andrews in Mt. Pleasant where Greg’s group starts. We are going to start at 6am on Saturday and go over to Sullivan’s Island and IOP and do an out an back. We would love to have you. We are not going out at an insane pace, probably 9:30-10 type pace just to enjoy the run. I think I have 1 running the entire 13.1 with me, and another that is going to do the first 4 to the SI pub, and turn around. Let me know if you would like to join us! It’ll be fun.
