Friday (11/22): I had to do a long walk to work on simulating a back to back run in preparation for the Goofy Challenge in January. So I did a 3.5 mile walk at lunch and then did another 6.5 miles on the treadmill when I got home, totaling 10 miles.
Saturday (11/23): Today I did 19 miles in Mt. Pleasant, Sullivan’s Island, & Isle of Palm with Luke. Tasha joined us for the first 3.5, then she turned back, so she got in 7 miles. We did the Galloway 4:1 intervals, and ended up with a 10:15 overall pace. It was a beautiful run this morning. It was so awesome running in shorts & short sleeve shirt on Nov. 23rd!

Next Sunday, December 01, 2013, I will be doing the Space Coast Half Marathon near Kennedy Space Center. Starting this year, for the next five years, there will be a medal honoring each of the five space shuttles as a part of the Big Bang Series. Stay tuned the week after for a race recap.
This year the shuttle being honored is “Columbia”. Here is the finisher medal for this year.

So I am back! If you are not close you are probably wondering why the blog has gone dead for a few weeks. Well, on Sunday, Nov. 3rd, I tried to break up an indoor fight between two of my German Shepherds. I lost. One put a fang in my right hand for a puncture wound. The other hand was far worse. My left hand had a chunk removed from the back of my hand, and tendons were shredded. I had to have surgery to repair tendons. I am now in a brace until Christmas with lots of occupational therapy. I will not post any of the gory pictures, because you will lose your lunch, it was pretty nasty! But I will post a few of the cast & brace pictures.
My coworkers made me an Olympic Torch to run with.
Monday (11/11): No Workout (Injury)
Tuesday (11/12): No Workout (Injury)
Wednesday (11/13): 4 mile treadmill run at MUSC Wellness Center – First run after hand injury
Thursday (11/14): No workout
Friday (11/15): I had to do a long walk to work on simulating a back to back run in preparation for the Goofy Challenge in January. So I did a 4.5 mile walk on the home treadmill.
Saturday (11/16): Today was a nervous day. This was my first long run since having my hand injury. I am in a brace until Christmas, which does not let my hand move at all, which concerned me for the run today. I did a 13 mile run in downtown Charleston with 4 of my running buddies. They were awesome, they carried my water bottle the entire time, and helped me open GUs! Now that is good teammates! They also pointed out things on the road that could have been trip hazards. That was my biggest fear – falling on my hand. It turned out awesome! No pain or swelling. This gives me some confidence for my half marathon at Kennedy Space Center in Florida in 2 weeks!
Yearly Running Goal: 1000 Miles
Weekly Mileage: 21.53 Miles
Remaining to Goal: 196.52 Miles
On November 02, 2013, I had to do an 18 mile training run. It so happened that we had a 10K in my normal running area in downtown Charleston, the James Island Connector 10K. My running friend, Amy “The Tiny Terror” recommended I sign up for the race and add that into my training run, to relieve some boredom, support a good cause, and run the Connector, which we cannot do any other time. Sign me up! So I had two new running friends, that were going to run with me for the 18 miler, Evan & Luke. I passed along the idea of the connector run, and they were in agreement and we were all signed up for the race.
So Evan and I met at the MUSC Wellness Center at 6am to start the 18 mile run. We ran 10.3 miles together. The race was to start at 8:30am. We made a quick stop back at the vehicles to freshen up before the race. We then headed over to Cannon Park for the race start, where we met up with Luke. We had about 20 minutes to walk around and stay loose before the race started.
Monday (10/28): 3.4 Mile Treadmill Fat Loss Run (See previous blog post for details)
Tuesday (10/29): 45 Minute elliptical workout
Wednesday (10/30): 4 mile early run with the MUSC Pediatrics Running Group at 5:30 AM
Thursday (10/31): No workout
Friday (11/1): I had to do a long walk to work on simulating a back to back run in preparation for the Goofy Challenge in January. So I did a 3.25 mile walk at lunch and then did another 5 miles on the treadmill when I got home, totaling 8.25 miles.
Saturday (11/2): Today was a busy day. I did 18 total miles in quite a creative fashion. I ran the first 10 miles with a new running partner (met during the Wednesday MUSC running group). After this we ran the James Island Connector 10K with Luke (also met at MUSC running group on Wednesdays). We completed the 10K in about an hour, then needed about 1.5 miles more to finish out the 18 total miles. I will do a race recap on the 10K race later.
Yearly Running Goal: 1000 Miles
Weekly Mileage: 33.97 Miles
Remaining to Goal: 218.05 Miles
