So I am back! If you are not close you are probably wondering why the blog has gone dead for a few weeks. Well, on Sunday, Nov. 3rd, I tried to break up an indoor fight between two of my German Shepherds. I lost. One put a fang in my right hand for a puncture wound. The other hand was far worse. My left hand had a chunk removed from the back of my hand, and tendons were shredded. I had to have surgery to repair tendons. I am now in a brace until Christmas with lots of occupational therapy. I will not post any of the gory pictures, because you will lose your lunch, it was pretty nasty! But I will post a few of the cast & brace pictures.
My coworkers made me an Olympic Torch to run with.
Monday (11/11): No Workout (Injury)
Tuesday (11/12): No Workout (Injury)
Wednesday (11/13): 4 mile treadmill run at MUSC Wellness Center – First run after hand injury
Thursday (11/14): No workout
Friday (11/15): I had to do a long walk to work on simulating a back to back run in preparation for the Goofy Challenge in January. So I did a 4.5 mile walk on the home treadmill.
Saturday (11/16): Today was a nervous day. This was my first long run since having my hand injury. I am in a brace until Christmas, which does not let my hand move at all, which concerned me for the run today. I did a 13 mile run in downtown Charleston with 4 of my running buddies. They were awesome, they carried my water bottle the entire time, and helped me open GUs! Now that is good teammates! They also pointed out things on the road that could have been trip hazards. That was my biggest fear – falling on my hand. It turned out awesome! No pain or swelling. This gives me some confidence for my half marathon at Kennedy Space Center in Florida in 2 weeks!
Yearly Running Goal: 1000 Miles
Weekly Mileage: 21.53 Miles
Remaining to Goal: 196.52 Miles
Kudos to you for still getting your runs in despite the surgery and injury. So many people would have thrown in the towel (okay, I guess you can’t do this right now considering it was a hand injury, but still). You are doing great and will do great at the challenge despite this setback. Good to hear from you and congrats on your 13!
