I found this today, and thought I would share it. Please share with your non-running friends and family. It is 10 Things Not To Say To A Marathoner and then 10 things runners would rather hear instead. I will list them here, but click the link for the details.
1. Why aren’t you losing weight?
2. Running is so boring.
3. Why are you so upset over an injury?
4. Are you sure it is safe to do a marathon?
5. Your feet look disgusting.
6. You’re almost there.
7. I can’t believe YOU are running a marathon!
8. So, how far is THIS marathon?
9. Don’t you feel guilty all that time away from your family?
10. So, did you beat Oprah’s time?
So is this a 5K marathon, or a 10k?
Exactly, or like this one I heard at the Disney Marathon 2 years ago. I am going to do the Boston Marathon instead of the Disney Marathon because it is longer.
Some of my friends ran a 5K/10K race in Marion SC this weekend and the newspaper story even called it “5k and 10k marathons”. Ugh.
Yeah I ran the 5k on Disney’s private island Castaway Cay on our last Disney Cruise. When I was done, I met my wife on the beach. There was an older couple “bless them” sitting beside her, and she told them I was running the race. When I arrived, they were telling their friends I just ran the marathon. My wife just said “let it go, don’t bother correcting them!”
The only time I think it’s okay is if the race has a full marathon, has “marathon” in the name and you’re using the name of the race/event. For example, the Darlington Marathon, which had a 5K and 10K option, did not have a different name for those events (The 5K with the Charleston Marathon is actually called the “Shrimp and Grits 5K”). So… someone could say they were doing the Darlington Marathon 5K because that was the name of the race.
But yours was actually called Castaway Cay 5K! No marathon involved :).
Did you win?
YES! Well why not?
