Monday (5/12): On Monday I did something new. I decided to do some speed work to improve my half marathon times. I am trying to get under 1:55 at the Disneyland Half Marathon. I did 5×800 on the treadmill at the gym. I started with a half mile job at 10 minute pace, then started the 800s. Each 800 was run at 7.1 mph (equivalent to an 8:31 pace), then walked 3 minutes in between each. At the end, to get my 4 miles, I jogged another half mile at 10 minute pace.
Tuesday (5/13): No workout
Wednesday (5/14): Ran 4 miles with my running group at MUSC in the morning & 1.85 mile walk at lunch with Michael
Thursday (5/15): No workout
Friday (5/16): No workout
Saturday (5/17): I had a conference on Saturday so I did not get in a long run this week.
2014 Yearly Running Goal: 900 Miles
Weekly Mileage: 9.90 Miles
Remaining to Goal: 608.59 Miles
You ran 4 times as many miles as I did, lol. I think the speedwork will help, personally I think you can easily do a 1:55 half… maybe not in the heat, or a race with hills, but I could definitely see you finishing a flat, decent temperature, half marathon in under that. I dunno about Disney bc I would be so
tempted to take pics with the characters and distracted, hehe.
Did you go to wordcamp?
Yes WordCamp was awesome! It went really well. Can’t wait for next year.
Thanks! Yeah I have done a 1:45 and a few sub-1:55 halfs but my norm lately has been in the 1:57-1:59 range. Since my next 4 halfs will be flat I figured I try and best that.
