Starting at the 2013 Walt Disney World Marathon weekend, New Balance revealed new RunDisney themed shoes, to which you could only get at the race expos. Well, the popularity of these exploded. It became so popular, that at the 2014 Walt Disney Marathon weekend, you had to get on a wait list just to get in line at the potential to purchase the shoes. Well, for the last three RunDisney races, I have been unsuccessful.
Until now…. My running partner Becky did the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10 Miler last weekend, and was able to walk right up and get me my shoes. She actually called me on my birthday to tell me she was able to purchase them for me!
Since I have now done two Goofy Challenges, and Goofy is my favorite Disney character, of course I chose the “Goofy’s”! They are quite colorful don’t you think! There are special touches to the shoes that bring out Goofy’s character. The colors are Goofy’s signatures. It has Goofy’s hat on the toe box. Under the tongue it has his famous saying, “GWASH!”
Here are a few pictures….
Finally, on the heel of the shoe, is Runner Goofy, with the token 39 bib number to represent the 39.3 miles ran during the Goofy Challenge.
Here is the official video of all the various models available. Beyond Goofy, there are styles for Mickey, Minnie, & Cinderella.
The Cinderella and Minnie are super cute! Can’t wait to see what the 2015 offerings will be!
I’m hoping they will do a Tinkerbell shoe. She is my favorite character.
Hoping to score a pair of RunDisney shoes at the Everest Challenge in May.
It sounds like the key to scoring the shoes is to do it as some of the smaller events, instead of the big marathons like the WDW or the Princess.
A Tinkerbell shoe sounds interesting…. I haven’t heard that one discussed before, but you never know. I will warn you that the expo for Everest Challenge is much much smaller than all the other races, so if I had to guess, they will not have a New Balance booth for that race. Just don’t want you to get your hopes up.
I think it would be cool if they designed shoes based off each of the major events, so on top of Goofy (WDW) and Cinderella (Princess), you’d see Dumbo (DL), Tinkerbell (Tinkerbell), Darth Vader (Star Wars), Iron Man (Avengers), etc.
But of course, no one asked me 😉
Thanks for the warning about the Everest. I’ll also be running the 2015 Wine & Dine (of course this is assuming I can get registered for either event) so I’ll have at least one more opportunity in 15. My plan of 2016 is to run all the events (or as many as I can register for), so I should have plenty of opportunity to score a pair that year.
All of those would definitely sell…. Yes, I did all of the races at WDW in 2012.
Matt will be so jealous! When we were finally able to buy shoes for marathon weekend they were out of his size, but I was able to get a pair of the Cinderella shoes. He still uses that to guilt trip me into letting him get stuff. 🙂
I’ll be sure to wear them at the Space Coast Half festivities and around Disney to rub it in then.
