Tuesday (3/24): I did a 4 mile treadmill run at the gym at lunch. I ran at 7.0 mph at 1% incline. This equated to a 8:31 pace.
Wednesday (3/25): I ran 4.2 miles with my MUSC running group at 5:30 AM at a 8:42 pace.
Thursday (3/26): No Workout
Friday (3/27): No Workout
Saturday (3/28): Luke and I ran 8 miles on the Summerville Saw Mill Trail around 9am. We had a cold front come through, so we waited it out until it got over 45 degrees. We ran at my planned half marathon race pace for Indy & Cincy in May at a 9:04 pace. It was a nice, cool run.
2015 Yearly Running Goal: 900 Miles Weekly Mileage: 16.27 Miles Remaining to Goal: 634.42 Miles
My next half marathon toward my 50 By 50 Challenge of doing a half marathon in all 50 states before I turn 50 will be the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon in Indianapolis, Indiana on Saturday, May 2, 2015.
This week they revealed the finisher medal, and I have to say I am excited about adding this one to the collection.
On our Saturday run, we saw these signs all over the place. We thought everyone was being warned that we were running, later we realized they were for the Palmetto 200 that is going on Friday & Saturday.
Monday (3/16): We took a co-worker out to lunch for his birthday, so I moved my run until Tuesday. I still did my DailyBurn workout at home, which was LTF UB Metcom 7. An intense 18 minute fast paced upper body workout.
Tuesday (3/17): I did a 5 mile treadmill run at the gym at lunch. I ran at 7.3 mph at 1% incline. This equated to a 8:24 pace.
Wednesday (3/18): I ran 4.3 miles with my MUSC running group at 5:30 AM at a 8:48 pace.
Thursday (3/19): No Workout
Friday (3/20): No Workout
Saturday (3/21): On Saturday Dan, Luke, & I met in Mount Pleasant and ran 10 miles to and around Sullivan’s Island. It was a beautiful morning for a run. This was my first of two back to back days doing 10 miles. We averaged a 9:33 pace on our run at 57 degrees.
Sunday (3/22): On Sunday Luke and I were back at it for 10 more miles. We ran on the Arthur Ravenel Jr Bridge from Mt. Pleasant Waterfront Park to The Battery in Charleston. We averaged a 9:25 pace at 61 degrees. The more started rough. When I left the house it was pouring rain. I prayed the entire drive downtown for the Lord to remove the rain. Well Prayer Works! When we pulled in the parking lot the rain disappeared! When we got in the trucks to leave, the rain started again! Here is your example of being specific in your prayers!

My blogging friend, Denny over at DizRuns.com has a group training program for the Disney Wine and Dine Half Marathon. Sign up today and tell him Doombuggy Runner sent you.
Here are the details:
When it comes to preparing for a race, what works best for you?
Since runners tend to be social creatures, the group dynamic seems to be pretty popular when it comes to deciding how to train for a race. And if you’re getting ready for the 2015 Wine and Dine Half Marathon, you might want to check out my program.
Monday (3/9): I did a 5 mile treadmill run at the gym at lunch. I ran at 7.3 mph at 1% incline. This equated to a 8:17 pace.
Tuesday (3/10): No workout
Wednesday (3/11): I ran 4 miles with my MUSC running group at 5:30 AM at a 9:00 pace.
Thursday (3/12): I started DailyBurn online. The workout plan they chose for me was Live to Fail (LTF). It is a workout where you do reps to failure. My first workout was arms, called LTF ArmForge 1. It was 5 exercises, 4 sets, 10-12 reps in 37 minutes. Man you can feel the burn with light weight and high reps!
Friday (3/13): I did speed intervals at the gym on the indoor track. I changed to 800 meter intervals and did 5×800, with a 200m recovery in between. I started with a 1.5 mile warmup. The 1.5 mile warm up was at a 9:48 pace, the 800m’s ranged from 7:37 to 7:59 pace. Later in the evening, I did my DailyBurn workout, LTF LB Metcon 7 (Build up your aerobic capacity with this short 18 minute lower body Metcon workout.) This was just 3 plyometric exercises done twice.
Saturday (3/14): Today Dan, Luke, & I ran 9 miles in Mt. Pleasant. When I left the house for my 30 minute drive, it was pouring rain. I prayed the entire drive for the Lord to move the rain, and guess what! He Did! We had a beautiful run at 66 degrees! We started at the Mt. Pleasant Waterfront Park, ran the Shem Creek Boardwalk, and then out to the Pitt Street Bridge Pier and back to finish on the finishing pier at the Mt. Pleasant Waterfront Park. Great run today!

Weight Loss Notes: I was up a pound from last week, but I figured I would have this since I was sick all last week, and some of that was from not eating during my cold! However, this week my wife and I signed up for Daily Burn online. It is a custom workout based on your goals that you can do at home. For mine, it selected Live to Fail (LTF) all I need is a chair, and 2 sets of dumbbells. I started it Thursday night, and boy did I feel it Friday! There is a free 30 day trial then it is just $10 a month. The courses we are doing are 90 days.

Next Tuesday, March 17th, the registration opens for the RunDisney Wine and Dine Half Marathon. The race will be on Saturday, November 7th (Picture has incorrect date above – update coming). My friend Denny over at DizRuns.com has put together an online group training run program for this particular race. If you are new to RunDisney events, or the Wine & Dine Half Marathon, this maybe just what you need for motivation, direction, and encouragement in getting across that finish line in November.
As for the program, Denny is offering a deal to our blog followers. Click on this image above for more details. You’re going to be hearing a lot more about this program in the coming weeks, but until registration opens on Tuesday, he has slashed the price from $97 to $37. So if you’re thinking about running this race, and if you’re thinking you’d like to meet some awesome runners and have a specific program in place, I’d encourage you to jump at this opportunity. When you register, be sure to mention you heard it at Doombuggy Runner.
This weekend I participated in #RunChat on Twitter. We meet online for an hour each Sunday night to discuss various running topics. This weekend’s topic was on running form. The following video was provided by the sponsor, RunSmart Online, and demonstrates the proper landing in your stride.
Since I been sitting around sick a lot of the past week, I had a chance to catch up on other’s blog posts. Denny over at DizRuns.com put into words what has become my view of 5k races the last few years. I do not like 5k races any longer, but I could never voice why, well he has nailed it with his post on The Top 7 Reasons I Hate Running 5k Races.
If you are just starting to run, the 5k is the best place to start. You can learn to better your skills, socialize, and be done pretty quickly. I did many 5k races when I start out running in 2010. However, these days, when my shortest training run is 4 miles, it is hard to get excited about a 5k race.
Beyond Denny’s list, I would add that the 5k does not offer in the way of scenery. You do not cover a great distance, so there typically is not much to see during the race. On half marathons (and marathons) you are typically navigating an entire town or city, so you get a new perspective on the location, that you would miss in just driving through the town.
Sorry to my fellow running friends that love 5ks. I will listen to your 5k stories and praise you for your PRs, but they are not for me.
Be sure to go over to DizRuns.com and read the other great posts by Denny.
