Every year I set goals for myself and my running. For 2015 here was a list of my goals. Let’s see how I have done.
1. Complete at least one local race to support the local community
This is a good start. I completed the Save the Light Half Marathon on Folly Beach on February 7th, and had my 2nd best half marathon time ever at a 1:48. My running group is trying to talk me into running the 2nd annual Summerville Sweet Tea Half Marathon again this year in November.
2. Complete four half marathons toward my 50 By 50 Challenge
I am halfway toward this goal, as I knocked out Indiana & Ohio in May. I have two more state races planned for October.
Indiana (May 2, 2015) – One America Indy 500 Half Marathon
Ohio (May 3, 2015) – Cincinnati Flying Pig Half Marathon
Maryland (October 17, 2015) – Baltimore Half Marathon
Pennsylvania (October 18, 2015) – Hershey Half Marathon
3. Run for 900 miles
It is here at the midpoint of the year that I am going to modify this goal for the positive. At the time of this post, I am already well over 500 miles for the year. That being said, I am adjusting this goal to now be 1,100 miles for the year.
4. Stretch and foam roll regularly
I am proud to say that I have done this enough this year to now force my brain that I have to do this after every run. This has really helped. Just by doing about 4 different stretches for 5 minutes after my runs, it has helped reduce a lot of aches and pains I had been dealing with in late 2014 and early 2015.
5. Run with someone slower than you to help them achieve their running goals
I am so excited that my friend Chris Darling from church has taken up running. He has been at it for over 2 months now, and I see an amazing improvement in him already. Check out his blog at “The Journey of Ascent.”
6. Reduce my weight to 185
Well after my 2 half marathons in May, I have regressed on this one a bit. I started the year at 205.6, and worked down to 191.7 at the end of the first quarter. I am not back to hovering around 198. Hopefully I can get back on the downward swing again soon.
Good luck everyone and happy running!
