Well I am back. For those not close to me, you may wonder why I haven’t posted training blog updates in a few weeks. Well during a church softball tournament about 3 weeks ago, I strained my hamstring rounding bases. Because it was so painful, I decided to take some time off from running. Also, with the July 4th holiday weekend, this gave me some added time to rest it, as I had 3 fireworks shows in 3 days over the holidays. So I got in two runs this week to try and get started back up again. Both runs went well, except for the heat & humidity, but we have just learned not to complain about that in the south anymore, as it is a given.
Monday (7/4): July 4th Firework Show
Tuesday (7/5): Recovery day after 3 fireworks shows in 3 days
Wednesday (7/6): I got together with my MUSC Running Group at 5:30 AM for a 4.2 mile run. We averaged a 9:25 pace with walk breaks on each mile marker, temps were 77 degrees.
Thursday (7/7): No workout
Friday (7/8): No workout
Saturday (7/9): This was my first long run in almost 3 weeks. We met in Mt. Pleasant and ran to the islands. We had a large group come out this week, probably the largest Saturday group run I think we have ever had, at eight! Thanks everyone for coming out. When we start in Mt. Pleasant, Dan always buys us chocolate milk afterward, so it is a nice perk. It is nice for him, because it is five minutes from his house! We started out for a 6-8 mile run, and decided to let my hamstring dictate the distance. It was feeling good, but it was getting hot, so we decided on 7 miles. Well for some reason there were technical glitches and we ended up at 6.6 miles. Oh well! The GPS said the temps were 79 degrees but we begged to differ as if felt more to the mid 80s to us.
2016 Yearly Running Goal: 1000 Miles

GPS lies. Every morning when I run from home, it tells me “Johns Island Running”. I do not live on the island and I have a Charleston address…
Glad you are on the mend and back to running after the fireworks shows and hamstring issue. I guess with so many fireworks shows, it was probably the best possible time to have to take a running break because you have a lot of other stuff going on.
I agree…. Thanks, I guess no time is good for an injury, but I couldn’t have timed that one any better. No races until Sept. also!
That too! If you’re already running again you’ll be fine for September :).
