This is all you need to know about Charleston… It’s Hot here! I know we were just voted best city and all that, but now is not the time to come here! But us strange runners are still running in 80-100 degree temperatures!
Monday (7/11): When I was out with my hamstring issue, I decided to start swimming laps at the gym’s pool. So I decided to swim today at lunch. It is nice and cool for all these hot days outside. I swam 850m (17 down and backs in the gym’s 25m pool) in about 30 minutes. I had plan to return to running in the evening with the Fleet Feet Summerville group, but looking at the temps just before hovering in the mid-90s, my wife convinced me to just stay home and get my run in on the treadmill. So I did just that and got in 3 miles around a 9 minute pace.
Tuesday (7/12): At lunch I ran 5 miles on the treadmill at the gym. Since I am doing the Santa Fe Thunder half in New Mexico in a few months, and it is a mostly all downhill half, I ran at a decline of -3 to start getting my legs adjusted to this difference. I ran at a 8:47 pace.
Wednesday (7/13): I ran with my MUSC Running Group at 5:30 AM for a 4.1 mile run. We averaged a 9:42 pace with walk breaks on each mile marker, temps were 81 degrees, felt like 150 🙂 because there was little to no breeze. At lunch I went over to the gym and swam 1000m.
Friday (7/15): No workout
Saturday (7/16): I met up with David, Becky, Sherman, Luke, Nick, & Alyssa at the MUSC Wellness Center at 6:30 AM and we ran 8 miles in downtown Charleston. It was quite warm and we backed the pace off a little to a 10 minute pace. Luke and Alyssa turned back at 4 miles while the rest of us pressed on for the 8 miles.
