Today I did a virtual half marathon with many around the country for the iRun for Diabetes Virtual Race event. I started out with three wonderful running partners, Amy Lundy, Tasha Ruth, & Joanna Gell. We started out in Mt. Pleasant at St. Andrews Church in the Old Village. We headed out and ran through the Old Village, and out to the Ben Sawyer Connector.
We took the bridge over to Sullivan’s Island, and made a quick stop at Dunleavy’s for a gel, at the 4 mile mark. This was Tasha & Joanna’s turn around point as they were doing 8 miles. It was a bitter sweet point, as this was the last I will see of Joanna for over a year. She gets on a plane to move to Los Angeles to work at the Mattel Children’s Hospital. It was a little sad, but so happen for her. We are hoping to meet up again in September 2014 to do the Disneyland Half Marathon together. Sorry for the digress….
So after they headed back, Amy and I continued on through Sullivan’s Island and on to Isle of Palms. We ran all the way to the Isle of Palms Connector. We stopped at the Subway there, and met up with a few from the TrySports Running Crew, which had fresh water. It was a good rest at the 8 mile mark to pop another gel. Then we were off again.
We head back toward Sullivan’s Island and retraced our track to Sullivan’s Island, back over the Ben Sawyer Bridge, back to the Old Village and finished up. We took a few alternate routes, and thus ended up running a total of 14.5 miles. I was a really great run.
Thanks to Amy for doing the entire distance with me, and thanks to Tasha & Joanna for doing the first portion. It was a great run for a great cause.
