Looking for that perfect gift for the runner in your life? I decided to put together my top 10 list of items that I as a runner would like for Christmas. I have even provided links to where you can purchase the item if it appeals to you.
Thank you for following my blog. Now that I have had my running blog online since August 2012, I want to have a product raffle. I am going to try and have a raffle quarterly to draw interest to my blog, but more importantly to running and a more healthy lifestyle.
To participate, you will have to make a comment on this post and answer a couple of questions. However, to be allowed to enter the contest, you will have to be a follower of my blog. The easiest way to follow my blog is to go the the right column, and you will see a orange button called “Follow Doombuggy Runner”. Simply enter your email address, and you will receive an email that you have to confirm by clicking a button in the body of the email.
Here is the contest, and its rules. You are to reply in a comment to this post, and make sure you include all the requested information in your response. Since you will be a follower, I will have your email address to contact the winner.
The contest will last one (1) week. From Monday, April 1st until Sunday, April 7, 2013 at 11:59 PM.
1) You must guess how many Peanut M&Ms are in this water bottle. Yes I know, not the healthiest of options, but the racks were wiped out this weekend at Target for Easter!
2) You should also include in your comment something inspiring about your running for others to read for encouragement.
Normal Price Is Right rules apply. You must get as close to the exact number without going over. If I have a tie, the winner will be the person would submitted their response first.
Now that I have built your anticipation, I know you want to know what you will win…. Wait for it….
The prize has been added to the picture now…
That’s right. You will win a blue roll of 20 pre-cut strips of KT Tape. A must for all runners to stay in top shape!
I hope you enjoy this little contest, and enjoy following my running blog in the future. The winner will be notified on Monday, April 8th via email. I will make blog post of the winner as well, so all will be notified. Thanks again for participating and good luck!
Let’s start off with a definition. Osgood-Schlatter is a painful swelling of the bump on the upper part of the shinbone, just below the knee. This bump is called the anterior tibial tubercle (PubMedHealth). Osgood-Schlatter disease is thought to be caused by small injuries due to repeated overuse before the knee area is finished growing. The quadriceps muscle is a large, strong muscle on the front part of the upper leg. When this muscle squeezes (contracts), it straightens the knee. The quadriceps muscle is an important muscle for running, jumping, and climbing. When the quadriceps muscle is used a lot in sports activities during a child’s growth spurt, this area becomes irritated or swollen and causes pain.
That being said, I have had this condition since growing up, and learned to live with it. In middle and high school I played 3 sports (football, basketball, & baseball) which lead to this condition most probably. This is what probably kept me from running until 2010. However, I have found that with proper running form I have not had much issue with it. In fact, it has only flared up a couple of times since running. Over the past few weeks it has started to bother me a little bit. I half marathon this weekend, so I wanted to see what I could do to minimize the condition this week to help me with the race, since I want to go for a sub 1:50 (current PR is 1:52:52).
Enter KT Tape. I was researching their website and wonderful instructional videos, and they actually having a taping concept for Osgood Schlatter. It is simple and makes since. I taped it up last night and will do a 4 mile training run today to try it out. If all goes well, I may be using this on Sunday to hopefully reduce any complications to help me set my next PR!
I think we did a good job of replicating the tape job from the video!
I hope this will help any others out there that might be experiencing this condition.
