Today it was reported on Through Heather’s Looking Glass something really cool called the “Castaway Cay 5K Challenge“. If you are (or will now be) traveling on the Disney Dream on January 12, 2015 after Marathon Weekend, you have a chance to add an extra challenge.
“After competing in the 5K, 10K, half marathon and/or full marathon during the Disney Marathon Weekend (January 7-11), runners can compete Jan. 14 in the Disney Castaway Cay Challenge, a special 5K race on Disney Castaway Cay, Disney Cruise Line’s private Bahamas island. Every runner who finishes this new runDisney Challenge event will earn two medals – an inaugural Disney Castaway Cay Challenge medal and a Castaway Cay 5K medallion, plus any medals earned for running any Disney Marathon Weekend events (5K, 10K, half marathon or full marathon). ”
This sounds really awesome, as we are now almost Gold Members on Disney Cruise Line. Unfortunately, I am not running at Marathon Weekend this year so I am out, bummer! If you decide to do it, let me know. Maybe in the future I can give this a go!

Good luck if you are planning to register. I am taking 2015 Marathon Weekend off, to do another state in my 50 By 50 Challenge.
We have arrived at Walt Disney World for the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend. It was nice leaving home at 38 degrees and arriving at Disney at 73; however, it has been a rainy day.
After checking in at our resort, Disney’s Beach Club Villas, we headed to the EPSN Wide World of Sports for the Marathon Expo.
Inside at the Expo they had things very well organized. This is my 3rd year doing Marathon Weekend, and 2nd doing to Goofy’s Race And A Half Challenge, and things seemed to move far smoother. They have the Goofy & Dopey Challenge bib pickup area in a separate area from the individual races pickup.
The big hype for the Expo has been the RunDisney New Balance Running Shoes. The hype started before you even got inside the expo.
Because of the hype and 80,000 runners here, they lines were insane, so I passed on getting a pair here. I decided to wait until the Disneyland Half Marathon in September to purchase my Goofy’s. I had a friend, Michael who left Charleston at midnight, to be in line at 6am, for an 8:30am expo opening, to get their shoes. They were 30th in line and were successful! I will try and post a video of how joyous their son was to get his Goofy’s.
My running partner is at Disneyland, CA this weekend to run the Disneyland Half Marathon. While at the expo, she found that they have revealed the medals designs for the 2014 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend.
Without any further wait:
Here is the new Minnie 10k race medal:
Here is the Donald Half Marathon medal
Here is the Mickey Marathon medal
Here is the Goofy medal you get for running the half marathon (Saturday) and the full marathon (Sunday), and the events I will be participating in. This is a total of 39.3 miles in 24 hours.
Finally, the new event, call the Dopey. You will get all the above medals, including this one, when you run the 5k on Thursday, 10k on Friday, half marathon on Saturday, and full marathon on Sunday for a grand total of 48.6 miles.
In just four months, the Walt Disney World Marathon is now sold out. It joins the other opportunities such as the Dopey Challenge, 5k, 10k, and half marathon that had previously sold out. At this time, the only opportunity to run during the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend, is to participate in the Goofy Challenge, which is presently at 92% capacity, so it is soon to sell out. The marathon sold out at 13,500 participants.
Here is the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend Schedule of Events:
— Disney’s Health and Fitness Expo: Jan. 8 – 11; ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex
— Disney’s Family Fun Run 5K: Jan. 9, 6:30 am; Epcot
— runDisney Kids Races and Mickey Mile: Jan. 9, 10 & 11; ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex

I hope if you were planning to participate that you got in before it sold out.
So a friend of mine text me last night that I was on a Disney Running article yesterday. I thought he had seen an article on the Dopey Challenge and was being funny. However, it was true.
If you scroll down the article linked above, I am in the center of the picture below “Weather, Weather, What’s the Weather Report?”, running with Jeff Galloway.
This was a picture from the 2012 Jeff Galloway Meetup at the WDW Marathon Weekend!
Thought I would share….Enjoy!
