On April 17, 2016 I ran the Inaugural RunDisney Star Wars – The Dark Side Half Marathon at Walt Disney World in Florida. After not doing a RunDisney event for two years because they have just got so expensive, being a Star Wars Junkie, this race had me from the announcement.
The race weekend started on Thursday and included Kids Races, 5k, 10k, and the half marathon. Since I only participated in the half marathon, we drove down on Friday and stayed until Monday. When we arrived on Friday, we went to the race expo at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex.

Here is a look at the race medal from the 2016 Inaugural Star Wars Half Marathon I ran this weekend. It is a two-sided spinner medal.
Side One has Darth Vader.
Side Two has Emporer Palpatine.
If you want your very on medal, the 2017 Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend is slatted for April 20-23, 2017.
You can check them out further on my Florida Medal Page.
What a weekend…. We spent the last 6 days to and from New Orleans to run the New Orleans Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon, but this is not the race recap. This is about a special gift I got from our friends Matthew & Kira. When we arrived in New Orleans and met up with them at the hotel, they had a box. I thought, strange way to pack their running gear for travel, but who am I to judge.
To my surprise, it was a gift for me. So I opened it up and saw 10-15 strands of Mardi Gras beads, to which I got excited and thought it was neat. I quickly pulled them all out and put them on like a Mr. T starter kit. After a few minutes of playing with the beads, they said, glad you like them, but that wasn’t the real present. They told me to go back to the box…..
I went back to the box, and was speechless, and if you know me, that isn’t easy. All I could say was wow. They bought me a special medals rack for my 50 state half marathons.
Even though it was a great weekend, I could not wait to get home, get it colored, and the 13 medals for the 13 completed states hung. It turned out so good.
Thanks to my friends Matthew & Kira for this awesome gift. Thanks for thinking of me and my goal. I will always remember you each time I hang a new state medal! Hopefully they will join me for a few of the state races in the future.
Yesterday, RunDisney presented the much anticipated medals for the Inaugural 2016 Star Wars Dark Side Race Weekend medals for the April races at Walt Disney World in Florida.
Can you feel the power of the force? That’s because these are the medals you‘ve been looking for. The 2016 Star Wars™ Half Marathon – The Dark Side finisher medals have just been released.
All of them are pretty exciting; however, the half marathon medal is a little disappointing. Granted we cannot see the other side of the spinner, but it is a little bland for such a much anticipated event. It will make it all better if Darth Vader is on the other side.
No matter the case of the medal, I am so excited to run the Star Wars Dark Side Half Marathon in April 2016.
There is still time to ensure you take one home for yourself. Limited space is available for the half marathon race on April 17th. Secure your spot in this inaugural 13.1 mile thrilling race through the Walt Disney World® Resort in Florida. Click the link above to join us.
My next half marathon toward my 50 By 50 Challenge of doing a half marathon in all 50 states before I turn 50 will be the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon in Indianapolis, Indiana on Saturday, May 2, 2015.
This week they revealed the finisher medal, and I have to say I am excited about adding this one to the collection.
On Saturday, November 8, 2014, I completed the Savannah Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon, in Savannah, Georgia.
This was my 8th state completed in my 50 By 50 Challenge. I have updated the page with this race’s information.
I have also added a new medal page for the state of Georgia which includes this race’s medal image.
I will have the race recap later this week. Stay tuned.
