||Half Marathon State # 04
Half Marathon #07
This weekend, June 1-2, 2013, I traveled to Colonial Williamsburg, VA to run the Run for the Dream Half Marathon. This race was recommended by several of my fellow runners to complete another state toward my 50 By 50 Challenge. We arrived in Williamsburg around 11 AM on Saturday morning.
We booked to stay at the Williamsburg Woodland Resort, which is where the race expo was held (I will review the hotel and the restaurants we ate later this week). The race expo was small, but well organized. Since there wasn’t anything I was looking for at the expo, we just went in got my paperwork, bib, and race instructions, then headed out to do some sightseeing.
As a part of the race package I got a free ticket to tour Colonial Williamsburg, so that is what we decided to do. After we got settled in our room, we decided to get something to eat. We ate at a restaurant on property called Huzzahi. It was really good, and I will review it later this week. After lunch, we went to the Colonial Williamsburg Visitor’s Center to get my wife a ticket for the Colonial Williamsburg tour. Upon talking with the ticket person, we found out we could get her a free ticket, because we were staying on property. This was a great budget savings, as the tickets were around $40. Since this is a race recap, I will give a review of the tour in a separate post later this week. For dinner Saturday, we went with an old reliable, Cracker Barrel. I have done this the last few half marathons, so I wanted to keep with the tradition, since it has not bothered me in the past. After dinner, we rode around town to find the starting line and where we would park on Sunday morning.
This weekend I will be running in the Run for the Dream Half Marathon in Williamsburg, VA. Here is a preview for the race and the causes it supports.
Stay tuned early next week for a race recap from the weekend.
My next half marathon is in two weeks. It is the Run for the Dream Half Marathon in Colonial Williamsburg VA. Today they unveiled the finisher medal for the race. It looks really nice and classy for the event and location. I will be proud to wear this medal!
So yesterday I got some news that our nephew has scheduled their wedding for Nov. 9, 2013. I had planned to run the Savannah RnR Half Marathon on that date. Thus I will have to pass on this race for this year. So I had to scour the wire for a replacement race so I could keep on track to get my 50 half marathons in 50 states before I am 50 course of action. With some recommendations for my fellow Running of the Ears runners, I have made my choice.
I have decided to run the Run for the Dream Half Marathon in Colonial Williamsburg, VA on June 2, 2013. On the first weekend of June 2013, An Achievable Dream and Colonial Williamsburg will host the 3rd annual Run for the Dream in Williamsburg, Virginia. Saturday is Armed Forces Day and will begin with the Fit to Run, Fit to Dream 8K Run/Walk honoring Wounded Warriors. Sunday is the main event — the Run for the Dream Half Marathon.
Both races will start on the campus of the College of William & Mary, wind through the Historic Area of Colonial Williamsburg, and finish at William & Mary’s Zable Stadium. The half marathon route will take runners down the Colonial Parkway toward Jamestown before returning to the City of Williamsburg and the Historic Area.
Proceeds from the Run for the Dream will go to An Achievable Dream, a nationally recognized K-12 school dedicated to the belief that all children can learn and succeed regardless of their socioeconomic backgrounds, and that education can break the cycle of poverty. The race will also benefit the Wounded Warriors Programs, dedicated to assisting and advocating for the severely wounded, ill and injured members of the armed forces and for their families.

I am really looking forward to this race. There will be a few fellow ROTE runners there to also meet up with!
